An Outpour of Line and Thought
I often love paging through my old work, the hardcopy of any artwork I’ve ever made, it feels like a priceless asset in my eyes, an artifact to be left behind.
When you make artwork digitally unless you transfer it out of the digital realm into print, you’ll find that once the device is powered down so is the artwork, lost inside a device or object that is just out of reach of the audience.
When you create on paper, the tangibility and expression of movement adds consequence to your mark making, yes so too digitally. It’s that permanency that is so tangible.
What is there to Learn?
When it comes to digital art making, the biggest caveat is that barrier to entry. You have to learn to get to most out of whatever software your using. Analog artwork making has a finality to it, once you make a mark, its almost final. The biggest + to digital creation that I love how its almost infinite in variability of how much you can just edit to your hearts content!
The barrier to sharing artwork is also one reason that most switch to making art digitally today, with the rise of social media, you want to post ASAP! to make people see your work and gain that glory.
I would usually have so many drawings i’d have to spend hours scanning and compiling scribble bombs.
For me digitally its the power to record the entire process and that opens a door to a new medium of expression, video creating!
Traditionally I have a hand made object – something that I can hang on the wall and never need electricity to view, a one of a kind object. As humans I always have a feeling that we are created to create, bless God for ever for making us like this – thank you Jesus Christ for this talent.
I was going to share art made by AI – but ultimately its just a tool, generative AI is ingenious, yes its amazing but its built of the backs of generations of artists that have poured their life into creating, consider it next time you prompt. I admit it I used them all, some times that drive to create means any outlet you can find is used.
You can draw also! What matters is the process, the act of making, the result shouldn’t be at the fore front of your mind, that way you will always be happy creating artwork, either digitally or through traditional mediums.
