Blender is a free open source modeling program that feels like the control panel of a Boeing jet!
What is wonderful about blender is that is allows you to compose scenes, specifically using cameras to align the view to your desired shot.
I saw this board game a while ago that had people race across a desert, the units were vehicles that are wind powered, made me think of ships sailing in the desert.
Using planes you can actually over lay basic flat images, the planes can then be used as a background to your shot! Above you see my initial idea was that the ship would sail over a cliff and towards safety.
Blenders lighting, really helps to guide the illustration, I found that having the ship sail towards the viewer rather than an escaping or concluding shot that it would convey more story which is always the my ultimate goal.
